Beauty Pageant Secrets and Tips

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

Beauty pageants are competitions that measure the inner and outer beauty of women. They focus on a woman's physical beauty during segments such as the swimsuit competition. However, they also focus on a woman's inner beauty during the question and answer segments. Beauty pageants are very competitive events.

Research

" Before trying out for a beauty pageant, find out everything you can about it. Read about its history, its focus, its past winners and its sponsors. If Pepsi is sponsoring your event, make sure you read all about when they were founded, who founded them and even current Pepsi trends and events. Understanding your event's history can help you understand the general attire, talents and attitudes of past winners. This can help you adjust your approach to the contest to maximize your winning potential.

Question Preparation

" Coming to any event like this without any question preparation will make you look foolish when you go on the podium and draw a blank. Never try to fake an answer. Politely say you are unfamiliar with the subject. Blathering your way through a poorly conceived answer will make you look like a poorly prepared liar. Keep your answers honest in order to appear more believable.

Look Natural

" Make up, hair dye and other beauty enhancers should exist only to enhance your natural beauty. Excessively using any of these enhancing tools will appear desperate, as if you are attempting to cover up for a lack of true beauty. Avoid slathering make up on your face, wearing large earrings or wearing wild dresses. Wild hairstyles will also draw attention from your body and face. Wear your hair in a simple style that is suitable for your face shape. Short rounder faces look best with short hair while longer, narrower faces are enhanced by long hair. Avoid curling your hair if you have straight hair or straightening your natural curls. It can give your hair a burned out look. Very light make up is all that is necessary.

Be Polite

" Always be polite. From the moment you walk in the door until the moment the judges announce the winners, you should always be smiling and happy to be there. Don't strut in with a diva attitude. This attitude will be picked up on immediately by your fellow contestants and the judges. They will begin to resent you for your attitude and you will be unlikely to win. However, you should always keep your head high and act confidently. Look each contestant and judge in the eye. Good posture and a confident walk show that you are a confident, beautiful woman. Coming in hard and fast to blow over the competition usually reeks of desperation. Quiet confidence will be obvious to all who see you.    credit - Eric Benac, eHow Contributor
